The Engikaret plains north of Arusha hold one of Tanzania’s rarest residents: the Beesley’s Lark. We set out before dawn with a small group of young birders to look, listen, and learn.nnPatience is the first lesson. The lark is small, pale, and easily lost in the short grass — but with quiet observation the plains slowly reveal their secrets.nnBy mid-morning we had logged not only the lark but a dozen other dry-country specialists, and a notebook full of questions to carry back to the classroom.
